Need Advice Concerning Birkentstock Shoes.?
My podiatrist wants me to get a pair of Birkenstocks to help with chronic foot pain. Looking through Ebay last night, I noticed that there are several types of them. Is there a kind that is better than another, or do they all have the same type of footbed? I really need serious advice on this topic. I dont want to spend a fortune on a pair of shoes that are not the right type. Thanks!!
Medical professionals often recommend Birkenstocks for chronic foot pain. Birkenstock is actually a group of brands from Germany.. all sharing the same committment to comfort and quality. These brands by Birkenstock include Footprints, Alpro, Birki’s, Newalk, Papillio and Tatami.
There are many different Birkenstock footbeds, contructions, and materials. For example, the classic Birkenstock sandals (like the 2-strap Arizona that most people know) are available in a regular arch and a high arch version, in 2 widths, in european sizes. The Birkenstock casual and dress shoes (usually under the Footprints collection) feature footbeds made of the same cork that molds and shapes to your foot with wear, only the profile will be somewhat different and there will be no toe bar.
I have also found that many health professionals refer their patients for Birkenstock orthotics, which can be worn in most high quality footwear. There are several different Birkenstock arch supports availabile.
So, what is the answer to your question? Find a Birkenstock Store with professional fitters to help you find the best shoe. If you do not live near a Birkenstock Store, shop online from a site with professionals available to help you get the right shoe and the right fit..
Birkenstocks all have the same footbed. It really just depends on the style you are looking for. Also, on the Home Shopping Network, Birkenstock sells a line called Betula which is a little more fashion forward and costs less than the original line…but they all still have the same footbed. You can look them up on http://www.hsn.com or look them up on ebay as well…they might be even cheaper. The only reason I would prefer HSN is because you have 30 days to return the shoes if they don’t fit or if you don’t like them…not everyone on ebay will let you do returns. Good luck.
The best thing is to buy in a store. If you are not comfortable, you can return and choose another one. If you are, you can buy the same through Ebay.
As far as the footbed, I’m pretty sure they’re all made the same. I have the clog looking ones and they’re so comfortable for fall and winter. But, since its summer you might want to get a type of sandal.
Good Luck!
The other posters are correct Birks all have the same basic footbed.
Just be aware those there are two different “styles” if you will. regular and narrow and this affects the arch. I made that mistake at the beginning.
Go to a shoe store that carries the birks and make sure you are sized right.
The good new then is after that it is just the style. Bid away. You can then wear any Birk in your size and width…
best
