What’s The Best Way To Raise A Dress An Inch Without Hemming It? (and Please Don’t Say Wear High Heels…)
I’ve seen a lot of weddings. After a while the bride takes off her high heels and starts dancing (because the high heels hurt!) What can a bride do to keep the dress off the floor? Any ideas?
put your dress on and turn up the hem of it, sew a little hoop to put your hand through to hold up the skirt while you dance, or you can do the same thing with the train of your dress and hook the bottom of your skirt to the waist of your dress in the back. I’ve know girls to put a velcro strip at the hem of the dress and another one about 2 inches up, when its time to dance they roll the edge up and hook the velcro. I’ve seen drawstrings and bustle made in the backs of dresses, but I have heard girls complain of wrinkles in the dress when they let them down. I like the hoop idea better. And looks much nicer. The hoop for the wrist was also used in older days when long dresses were always worn.
get a taylor/seamstress to bustle your dress instead of just bustling the back, put several bustles around the bottom as well…this is what I did and it consisted of a few hoops on the under side of my skirt that looped to the bottom of my skirt. It look amazing and it wasn’t dragging the ground when I took off my shoes!
What about comfy platform shoes?
Or maybe don’t go for high heels in the first place, then the dress will stay at the same level.
Some brides actually wear TWO dresses, one for the ceremony, one for the reception.
There are also dresses that have kind of a curtain effect- like a string is pulled and the dress kind of cinches up at even markers the whole way around, but that’s probably not a good one if you want a sleek dress. What a bout a dress that somehow is adjustable in the waist- you know, like you somehow have hooks like on a bra so that you raise the whole thing, rehook, and the excess material is hidden inside the dress? Do those exist?
safety pins
Have a tea length bridal gown instead of long.
where you would normally put the hem put a couple safty pins on the inside after the wedding =-D
