Interview Dress Code

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

There is no doubt each one of us will not wear a formal dressing to the carwash. This is because we have a feeling and understanding of what to wear and what to not.

No wonder, clothing, as many other items of humans’ appearance, has various social aspects.

You can put on any cloth you like at home, nobody cares if you are fancy-looking or walking around totally naked. But your “interview outfit” will tell everything about you. (more…)

Shoe Shopping On The Internet

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Shoe shopping may just be the one type of shopping where the Internet does not offer the most convenience. The obvious reason is that shoes must be tried on and even if your size is consistent, it may change in different brands, and each style of shoe is a bit different. There can be up to an entire size difference in styles that have high heels or pointed toes. Shoes must fit well, not just for comfort and appearance but also for foot and joint health. Cramped tootsies have an effect throughout the leg and back and can even result in neck pain and headache. And, of course unlike the to die for designer bargain dress, shoes cannot be altered by a skilled tailor. You’ve got to get the fit right the first time. Still, the convenience of online shopping is available to those shopping for shoes and there are number of attractive sources for every type of shoe on the Internet.
Whether you are looking for fashion, work or sport shoes there is someone who sells it all, and sometimes at great prices. It is important for you to make certain that the retailer will accept returns for full refund or exchange, or you may find yourself stuck with unbearable shoes that are the wrong size. And when shopping for shoes on the Internet, you must be prepared to have the time to ship your purchases back. It may even be a good strategy to by several sizes of the same shoe at one time to be certain that you will receive a good fitting pair, and then return the others. Not all retailers are open to these kinds of orders, so check first.
Nextag is one good source for all kinds of shoes online, and both men’s and women’s styles. You can find every kind of athletic shoe, from tennis to golf and all kinds in-between here and sizes out of the usual range. They handle children’s sixes and advise that for youth sizes 13c to 5, the shoe should be bought one size larger for proper fit. This retailer knows the problem of proper fit and is prepared to accept returns. Calibex and shop both stock large selections of shoes for men, women and children.
Nordstrom, is known for its semi annual shoe sales, offers its huge selection of quality designer shoes and its famous shoe sale to the Internet. Nordstrom will always offer a great selection of designs you can find other places but twice a year it offers the same no holds barred, all shoes up to 50% off sale that is popular in its retail stores. Look here for Nichols and Etienne Anger from Italy and Arche shoes from France.
The shoe shopper has access to an unlimited number of online retailers over the Internet and just has to enter the type of shoe in his or more likely, her, browser to pull up all the available retailers. Visa MasterCard and store credit cards are all accepted forms of payment.

Ladies – Dress for Success for Your Job Interview. Let Your Clothes Sell You

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

If you are attending for a job interview then you will want to ensure that you give yourself the best chance of success.  You’ll certainly have brushed up on any questions you may be asked about your experience and qualifications for the job.

However if your qualifications and abilities are the same as the next applicant it will be your appearance that can tip the balance in your favour.   This article will offer you helpful guidelines to ensure that your appearance will work for you at that all important job interview.

You only have one chance at making a first impression, so your first impression needs to be entirely favourable.

General dress styleYou need to be sensitive to the job role for which you are applying.  For example should you be applying for the role of personal assistant to a managing director you need to tailor your appearance to exude an air of efficiency and smartness.  However if you are applying to an independent record company that promotes hip-hop and garage music your dress style should be entirely different.

So do your homework – know what sort of dress style will typify the indurecty for which you are applying and copy it.  However one very useful tip is to avoid extremes – don’t outdress the interviewer!  Imagine applying to a female office manager – if your outfit looks a million dollars and she is wearing standard work clothes, your chances are slim right from the outset.  You should always aim for neatness but neutrality. Shoes for your interviewMany interviewers look at the interviewee’s shoes before anything else and will judge accordingly – so your shoes must be clean.  Don’t go for stilettos with ultra high heels – aim for your outfit to be neat but not dramatic.

Ladies – what outerwear should you select for your job interviewMany organisations commonly dress down and jeans and casual wear is acceptable on a day-to-day basis.  However you are trying to ensure that your first impression is better than those competing for the same job so as a general guide look to wear a neat combination of blouse and skirt.   If you are plus size then stick to darker colors and away from vibrant large patterns – you are not auditioning to be a set of sixties floral curtains!  Stripes will work and be flattering if they are vertical – steer clear of horizontal stripes

Tights or stockingsApparently sales of pantyhose and stockings has been dropping over the past few years as more women choose not to have their legs covered.  If you do wear a skirt for your job interview as recommended then it is essential to wear nylon stockings or pantyhose.  Pantyhose or stockings will finish your outfit and flatter your legs as well, hiding any blemishes and giving an ‘artificial tan’ to pale legs.  Keep the look restrained – neutral to dark shades, and avoid vibrant colors or patterns.

Choosing lingerie for your job interviewNo, this is not a joke, lingerie can make a difference.  If you feel your underwear fits well, and looks good (even though you’re the only one to know), then you will behave more confidently.

OuterwearAs already mentioned, you will need to decide on an appropriate outfit in relation to the type of job for which you are.  Aim for simple elegance; you do not want to appear sloppy to a prospective employer.  However it is not a good move to make your interviewer feel you are significantly better dressed than they are!  A smart suit, ideally with a skirt and not pants.  Yes we are in the twenty first century, but some employers are old-fashioned!  If you don’t like the advice, ask yourself how badly you really want the job?  If wearing a skirt gives you a fractional edge over another interviewee then it will have been worth the effort.

PerfumeI’d recommend minimal perfume.  A scent which you may like might be overpowering to someone else if they happen to have a really keen sense of smell, and some people are actually allergic to certain perfumes and smells.  Less is certainly more in this instance.

NailsClean nails are of course essential, and natural varnish or a restrained color is your best bet.  There are very few occupations where the possession of long talons will either impress or be an asset; they can result in the wrong keys being hit on keyboards, and in a health care environment for example they can even be a health hazard. Short and neat is best.

Body language at an interviewBody language is very powerful, and you can these tricks to get the interviewer on your side without them even being aware of it.

A firm handshake, whilst looking the interviewer in the eye with a natural confident smile will instantly put you ahead of the pack.

Subtly mirror the posture of your interviewer and they will instantly warm to you…and not be aware why!  On the other hand sitting with arms tightly folder is a very contained, shy posture and will give off the wrong signals.

Finally, make sure you’ve done your homework on the company before you attend.  Asking one or two intelligent questions that shows that you have an awareness of the business always creates a good impression.

Good luck with your interview!

How Real Women Can Dress Sexy For Clubbing – 7 Tips

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Not all women have a slim figure (like the self-confessed vain-glorious me) but everybody has the right to party! You may not have the stick-thin model look, but sexiness is all about attitude. Here are few tips to real women who want to look fabulous when they hit the club!
1. Go with the right stiletto
Choose the right trendy heels you’d be comfortable wearing all throughout the night. Never try too hard wearing 4-inch heels. Some women choose very annoyingly high heels and they complain about suffering from sore feet. How can you dance the night away if your shoes won’t permit you? But flats are not appropriate for clubbing, so go for something in between.
2. Don’t compromise comfort for style
You may be doning the hottest piece of dress, but if you look awkwardly uncomfortable in them, you’d end up being “Miss Pathetic of the Night”. If you borrowed it from a friend, make sure it fits you.
Moreover, secure your undies in place. At parties, it’s really disgusting to see girls who keeps on fixing their bra straps while dancing. Choose a strapless bra instead but if you’re afraid that they will fall off, wear a clear bra strap. Do not ever consider wearing nipple covers or nippits when you don’t have perky breasts.
3. Sexy not Slutty!
Sexy does not imply that you have to bare it all and not leave something to the imagination. When wearing a top which shows your most coveted cleavage, don’t pair it with something which almost displays your undies. Going out in a piece of clothing which is see-through all over is not highly recommended. Also, if you are not a Playboy cover girl, avoid the whore-style ultra-fitted black leather pants.
4. Highlight your best feature (and cover in disguise what you don’t like)
Yes, if you have it, flaunt it. If you have nice pair of legs, wear something that will draw attention to them. Note: Highlight only one feature at a time. If you emphasize everything, the looker will be so confused.
For heavy girls, wear something darker to create an illusion of a smaller body. Don’t wear something tight, it will emphasize your curves at the wrong places. Know your body type and dress according to it.
5. Keep yourself updated with the trends
I don’t advise that we worship the trends and make those beauty magazines your bible, but at least be up-to-date. Do not wear a dress which will make you look like you just stepped out from another era. (Tip: Stop borrowing you Mom’s clothes, unless she’s a fashion guru).
6. Play with accessories
Accessorize but do not be too happy wearing your accessories all at once. Bring attention to one key accessory and be more subtle on the others. If you choose to focus on the must-have necklace. Stay simple on the bracelets, scarf etc. Try to stay sophisticated and classy. Your hand bag and shoes does not have to be of the same color.
7. Don’t be afraid to experiment and show your own style
It’s better to be a trendsetter than just copying other people’s style. Be unique. When you are at a club, expect that 101% of the girls there exerted an effort to pull the look they have tonight. Don’t let yourself be one of the unknown faces in the crowd. Add spice to the common style and stand out.
When you go out with your girls, you do not have to be a copycat of each other. Your get-up does not have to be coordinated with your friends’ style. Don’t go out like you are some kind of a Pussy Cat dolls or Spice girls about to perform.

Flat Shoes Rise Above The Rest: Top Ladies Shoes

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

We all love high heels – few things feel more empowering, sexy, dramatic, and expressive than slipping on a pair of high heels for an event, dinner, or whatever. So it may come as a shock to you to hear that more and more women are discovering, and rediscovering womens flat shoes as an option for daily wear. Designers have started stepping up to the plate when it comes to style and comfort, and we’re starting to notice as we peruse the fashion magazines to the gossip rags, and especially while shopping.

What has really pushed flat shoes back to the forefront? There was a time when it meant that we were starting to tire from, or –gasp – becoming too old to have heels on all the time. And perhaps some of us still feel that way. But look at what designers from Tory Burch to Marc Jacobs are coming up with, and it’ll be harder to deny that flat shoes are entering a renaissance. From ballet flats to loafers, they’re no longer a more comfortable alternative, but a fashionable alternative when high heels are just not practical to wear.

Steve Madden Flats for women

Some of my favorite flat shoes for women are being designed by my favorite shoe designers overall – Steve Madden. His bold, colorful designs captured my attention since the very beginning, and I think many of my formative, life changing adult experiences have happened when I was wearing a pair of his shoes. So it was no leap for me to try out some Steve Madden flats, like the Kobraa Black Snake, which is my favorite for when I need to look good at the office, and be ready for an impromptu night out.

Steve Madden ballet flats like the P-Jack Natural Snakeskin are just irresistible when you want to catch the eye of someone – whether it’s for admiration or envy. The understated shape of the ballet flat, combined with the snakeskin printed leather creates and eye-catching balance of flamboyance and classic design, while feeling incredibly comfortable to wear. You may not be getting on your toes in these (though you can if you want), but you’ll feel a cut above everyone nevertheless.

Juicy Couture Flats for women

When I want to be carded at a bar or club (just a personal ego thing), I love wearing my Juicy Couture. Always colorful, always fresh and casual, and incredibly comfortable, I rarely go through a weekend without wearing something from Juicy. I just added some Juicy Couture flats to my wardrobe, the Edith Silver Nappa with Gold Buckle – which is every bit the Juicy I want in a ballet flat. Shiny, pretty, and amazing with everything from a cocktail dress to a pair of dark blue jeans, these are some of the best flat shoes for women I have ever invested in.

If you still don’t believe that a flat shoe will do it for you, I urge you to go to your nearest store and try some on. You’ll find that they’re every bit as comfortable and easy to walk in, and you’ll be surprised by the many variations and styles being produced by your favorite designers. There are plenty to choose from including:

• Sliver flats

• White flats

• Gold flats

• Red flats

• Brown flats

Take a look online too – there are plenty of great stores like my old standby Jildor (www.JildorsShoes.com) that have an incredible selection for you to look through. I’m pretty sure that it won’t be long before you’re spending more time with some gorgeous flats for your day-to-day life.

Do you have a petite figure? A style consultant offers advice on how to dress to impress

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

As a style consultant, I know that scale is a combination of height and bone structure and may be petite, average or large.  Your body scale will determine the size of patterns, the weight of fabrics and how much texture you can wear, as well as the size of your accessories.  Petite figures are generally under 1.6m with small facial features, fine fingers and often have a shoe size under 37.  This is actually one of the hardest body shapes to dress to impress.

In dressing a petite figure your three main aims are firstly to wear clothes that don’t swamp you, secondly to never to wear anything that cuts your body in half and thirdly to always try to draw attention away from your lower body and towards your face.

Neat fitting clothes with clean and uncluttered lines are ideal and a monochromatic head to toe look is excellent for creating the illusion of height.  Everything you wear, from clothes to accessories like belts and handbags must be in proportion to your small frame or you will look overpowered.  Accessories like scarves and earrings are a brilliant way to draw attention to your face and always having a neat hairstyle and fresh make-up will also draw the eye upwards.

Always look to buy fine to medium-weight fabrics with little texture since this can create too much bulk, particularly if you are layering.  Go for shorter length fitted jackets and high-waisted trousers – again to lengthen the leg.  Vertical stripes help to give a longer line and a taller appearance.  Necklines shaped in a V are especially flattering on petites because the V-shape draws the eye up and gives the illusion of a longer neck.   The wrap dress is a good way to wear a V-neck.

With regard to shoes, it is a misconception that shorter people need to wear very high heels.  Any heel over three inches will make a petite woman look like someone who is trying to be taller.  Medium height heels work best since they are in better proportion to your frame as well as being more comfortable.  Generally your shoes and hosiery should be a similar colour.  If, for example, you are wearing a blue suit you should pair this with a nude shade of tights and fairly neutral shoes to create a long-legged illusion.   Another way to make your legs look longer is, within reason, to show as much leg as possible.  Straight skirts and dresses that end at your knee or slightly above are the most flattering lengths for a petite frame.

Wherever possible, smaller framed people should avoid any large accessories and prints as well as oversized t-shirts, frills and horizontal stripes, all of which will create the wrong effect.  Although colour blocking is good, if you wish to wear two colours try to ensure that the brighter colour is used on the top one third of your frame otherwise you will not look correctly balanced.
