We all love high heels – few things feel more empowering, sexy, dramatic, and expressive than slipping on a pair of high heels for an event, dinner, or whatever. So it may come as a shock to you to hear that more and more women are discovering, and rediscovering womens flat shoes as an option for daily wear. Designers have started stepping up to the plate when it comes to style and comfort, and we’re starting to notice as we peruse the fashion magazines to the gossip rags, and especially while shopping.
What has really pushed flat shoes back to the forefront? There was a time when it meant that we were starting to tire from, or –gasp – becoming too old to have heels on all the time. And perhaps some of us still feel that way. But look at what designers from Tory Burch to Marc Jacobs are coming up with, and it’ll be harder to deny that flat shoes are entering a renaissance. From ballet flats to loafers, they’re no longer a more comfortable alternative, but a fashionable alternative when high heels are just not practical to wear.
Steve Madden Flats for women
Some of my favorite flat shoes for women are being designed by my favorite shoe designers overall – Steve Madden. His bold, colorful designs captured my attention since the very beginning, and I think many of my formative, life changing adult experiences have happened when I was wearing a pair of his shoes. So it was no leap for me to try out some Steve Madden flats, like the Kobraa Black Snake, which is my favorite for when I need to look good at the office, and be ready for an impromptu night out.
Steve Madden ballet flats like the P-Jack Natural Snakeskin are just irresistible when you want to catch the eye of someone – whether it’s for admiration or envy. The understated shape of the ballet flat, combined with the snakeskin printed leather creates and eye-catching balance of flamboyance and classic design, while feeling incredibly comfortable to wear. You may not be getting on your toes in these (though you can if you want), but you’ll feel a cut above everyone nevertheless.
Juicy Couture Flats for women
When I want to be carded at a bar or club (just a personal ego thing), I love wearing my Juicy Couture. Always colorful, always fresh and casual, and incredibly comfortable, I rarely go through a weekend without wearing something from Juicy. I just added some Juicy Couture flats to my wardrobe, the Edith Silver Nappa with Gold Buckle – which is every bit the Juicy I want in a ballet flat. Shiny, pretty, and amazing with everything from a cocktail dress to a pair of dark blue jeans, these are some of the best flat shoes for women I have ever invested in.
If you still don’t believe that a flat shoe will do it for you, I urge you to go to your nearest store and try some on. You’ll find that they’re every bit as comfortable and easy to walk in, and you’ll be surprised by the many variations and styles being produced by your favorite designers. There are plenty to choose from including:
• Sliver flats
• White flats
• Gold flats
• Red flats
• Brown flats
Take a look online too – there are plenty of great stores like my old standby Jildor (www.JildorsShoes.com) that have an incredible selection for you to look through. I’m pretty sure that it won’t be long before you’re spending more time with some gorgeous flats for your day-to-day life.
Women seem to be more concerned about the shoe styles available for wear to work than the style of the fashions that remain in the closet. Women will usually invest in several pairs of shoes for work because some days the business needs might require shoes that are dressy. Dress shoes are usually worn during business meetings with clients and for formal occasions where the shoe wearer would be expected to speak at an awards ceremony or a business charity event.
The fashions for work might dictate the type of fashion shoes that will be chosen for working environments. A woman who relies on a wardrobe arsenal that consists mainly of pant suits and a wide range of slacks, might rely on shoe styles that are less glamorous. Fashion wear such as pants and separate tops will usually require a woman to wear a shoe style that features a low heel. The woman might show a bit of individuality by wearing knee high stockings with these shoes styles for work instead of relying on the trustworthy socks in her sock drawer.
The type of work performed might also influence the styles of shoes worn at work. For office workers that sit hours at a time performing administrative tasks, the shoe style will typically be a loafer because these shoe styles for work are deemed to be the most comfortable. Loafers are available in a variety of materials but people turn back to vintage shoe styles and will often purchase the loafers in leather because they wear well and seem to last forever with an added benefit of never going out of style no matter how long the business person owns them.
For people that work in an industrial setting, the primary focus of the shoes worn in this environment is safety. The work environment might be greasy and grimy and the shoes styles worn would typically be coated with a grease resistant retardant. The safety features in shoes styles for work in an industrial environment always incorporate the use of steel reinforced toes because industrial settings are environments where many types of accidents can occur.
Some positions of authority might require people to remain on their feet for hours on end. Food service people will usually wear sneaker style shoes to work because these are the best shoes for tired and achy feet. The dirt and grease that accumulates throughout the day as waitresses wait on customers can be easily removed in the clothes washer at home because these shoes styles for restaurant work are considered to be machine washable. When wearing sneakers to work for hours the wearer should consider the type of arch system used in the manufacturing process because without this arch, many waitresses would not wear these shoe styles to work.
Exotic dancers require fancy shoes for wear to work because of the provocative nature of their job responsibilities. The high-heeled stiletto dress shoe is the most common style of shoes worn to work by any type of dancer because the slanted heel gives customers a better view of the shaping of the legs. A dancer will often have to remove these shoes after several hours at work because the slanted angles of the heels will also cause blisters and sore spots to form.
Dress shoes on a woman and a manA dress shoe (U.S. English) is a shoe used as a component of formal wear. A dress shoe is typically contrasted to an athletic shoe.Dress shoes are widely used in dance and for evening parties and special occasions.Men’s Dress ShoesMen’s dress shoes are most commonly black or cordovan in color. Other colors include: brown, burgundy, oxblood, chestnut or white.LoafersLoafers come in both men’s and women’s styles. It is not unusual for a man’s loafer to have a tassel, although a tassel can be seen in women’s varieties too. In actuality, the men’s and women’s loafers are quite similar, which is why the loafer is typically thought of a more masculine shoe.OxfordsOxfords lace up and tie to keep them on the wearer’s foot. They are typically made of leather, but can also be constructed of suede and other similar materials. Some Oxfords have an additional piece of leather sewn over the toe section.BroguesBrogues, or wingtips (the standard American name), are similar to oxfords, but different in that the additional piece of leather sewn over the toe section is in a W shape, resembling that of a bird’s wingspan, hence the American name for these shoes. While a brogue is a specific shoe, the term “wingtip” can refer to any type of shoe that has the W shape on the toe, including boots.Women’s Dress ShoesWomen’s dress shoes come in a variety of colors: black, silver, gold, tan or white and they may also match the color of the gown, dress or suit being worn. Almost all women’s dress shoes are high-heeled.PumpsPumps are typically thought of as a staple in any woman’s wardrobe, and come in a variety of colors and styles. They can have a rounded or pointed toe, and are usually made of leather. They have a heel of at least 5 cm (2 inches). Today, pumps have evolved beyond the classic working woman’s shoe. Now, there are peep toe pumps, which have a small opening at the toe. There are also pumps with ankle straps. Not only have the styles evolved, the fabrics have as well. While almost all pumps used to be made of leather, pumps now come in a variety of materials, such as suede and wool.SlingbacksThe slingback is similar to the pump in that it can have a rounded or pointed toe and usually has a heel, but it doesn’t wrap all the way around the heel like pumps usually do. Instead, it has a narrow strap that is pulled up over the heel, leaving the rest of the heel exposed.LoafersLoafers are usually flat and typically thought of as more masculine and comfortable than anything with a heel. The typical loafer has a square toe, and comes in darker colors, such as black or brown. One spin on the loafer is the cloak, which is a slip-on shoe, just like the loafer is, but it has a heel and is a little more feminine than the average loafer.MulesMules are shoes that slide onto the foot, and do not cover the heel or the back of the foot at all. These aren’t considered dress shoes unless they have a heel.Ballet FlatsThe ballet flat hasn’t been a popular fashion trend until sometime within the last five years. Taken from the art of ballet, as their name implies, they are flat shoes with a rounded toe, and come in many different colors and patterns. The classic ballet flat has a small bow on the toe, but this style has evolved to include varieties without bows.SandalsWhile sandals are usually more casual, there are some sandals that can be worn with dress clothes. For example, any sandal that has a heel, many straps, or a shiny finish would probably be acceptable in a more formal atmosphere.

Formal Wear: I dont have any good ones right now. I have a pair of black ones, but they suck. First of all, i dont have much money so i need something now. If I were to have one pair of shoes to go with a black suit that can be worn dressy, what would your recommend? I was thinking black leather lace up? How about brown shoes? But I only have a black suit…
Casual Wear: I want to get a white/green pair of Lacoste Carnabys. And as for another pair, should I look into the john varvatos converse slipons? Or something else? Should I just stay away from sneakers, casually??? How about a pair of brown or black loafers? Moccasins? Something(s) that can go with jeans, and/or khakis?
Many people like to shop online for name brand shoes in many styles because the prices are lower than any store in town. People buy all sorts of shoes for the family to wear, and they search the internet for stylish shoes at reasonable prices. Some of those prices come from overstocked merchandise that was purchased from a retailer that needed to remove inventory from the store to make room for the latest shoes styles of the season. People buy athletic shoes at reduced pricing because the low prices allow them to buy more shoes at the same place but for lower prices. (more…)
